The agreement might become official by July 6, when the league’s offseason embargo on such movements expires. Cunningham is one of the league’s greatest young guards and will enter his fourth season after Detroit selected him first overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.

The former 2022 All-Rookie has had a successful season in Detroit. Last season, Cunningham averaged 22.7 points per game, 7.5 assists per game, and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 35 percent from three.

Trajan Langdon, the new Pistons president of basketball operations, voiced enthusiasm for extending the 22-year-old guard.

“As for Cade, he and I have had some really good conversations thus far,” he stated. “High-character human being, mature beyond his years, and a top-tier basketball player at a young age, averaging 23 points and 7 assists last year. We’ll form a group around him to help him grow.
