Moussa Niakhate is on the verge of leaving the club permanently.
Moussa Niakhate has signed a new contract with Lyon, with his £26 million exit from Nottingham Forest set to be announced soon.
The defender is about to leave the City Ground after two years. Following an early hamstring injury, Cooper signed from FSV Mainz 05 and went on to make 37 appearances for Forest under Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, supporters have now watched the Senegalese international kick a ball for Forest for the final time, as his transfer to French club Lyon has been completed. A medical was apparently performed last week, and now to further push the deal, Fabrizio Romano believes his contract has been signed.
The 28-year-old has reportedly signed a four-year contract at the Groupama Stadium. The assertion is followed by a suggestion that the transfer will be announced ‘this week’.
Niakhate’s departure was part of a flurry of transactions aimed at closing before the Premier League’s accounting deadline of June 30. Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) have driven a number of teams to act quickly since the window opened just over two weeks ago, aiming to raise finances through sales to assure compliance and avoid punishment.
His £26 million sale improves the club’s ranking. Also, there is no desperation to cash in on other talents like Murillo and Morgan Gibbs-White, so proper amounts may be requested if any suitors come along with proposals in the coming months.
