BREAKING NEWS: Just In Ryan Day Reportedly Set to Leave Ohio State To Be Head Coach At Florida

Ryan Day has performed admirably at Ohio State since taking over for Urban Meyer. Day is 56-8 in five seasons as the Buckeyes’ head coach, and he has never lost more than two games in a season. He’s also taken the program to the College Football Playoff twice, including a national title appearance in 2020.

The Buckeyes haven’t won the Big Ten since 2020, and they haven’t beaten Michigan since 2019. Some observers believe Day is on the hot seat heading into the 2024 season, despite his outstanding career record in Columbus.

Another coaching post that may become available after this season is head coach for the Florida Gators. With two consecutive losing seasons, Billy Napier’s career could be jeopardized if the trend continues.

Paul Finebaum was asked about Day’s chances of coaching the Gators after the 2024 season. Finebaum was wary of the proposal because he feels Day would rather stay in the Midwest than make the step to the NFL.

“No, I don’t,” Finebaum replied. “I believe Ryan Day is most suited for either the Midwest or the NFL. I don’t see how he would come south.”

Finebaum stated that he didn’t see why Florida would want Day if he couldn’t flourish at Ohio State. To preserve Day’s future at Ohio State, Finebaum believes he needs do more than just beat Michigan. Day must establish that the program is a real contender.

Finebaum also highlighted that Ohio State had hired a new athletic director, Ross Bjork, who previously fired Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M. He mentioned that Bjork is not afraid to let Day go if things do not go as planned this season.
