Lane Kiffin and the University of Tennessee have a history of feuding, and the coach may now be taking it out on the Volunteers baseball team.
Kiffin turned to social media on Sunday to wish Tennessee success in the College World Series. On the surface, the post appeared to be a polite gesture from Ole Miss’ coach.
“Good luck, folks!! “Get a great start,” Kiffin wrote.
Good luck guys !! Get off to a great start. ⚾️🔥 @Vol_Baseball https://t.co/OqqsVItJMz

The problem is that the game Kiffin mentioned was on Saturday, and the Vols did not get out to a strong start. They lost Game 1 of the College World Series Finals to Texas A&M 9-5. Game 2 of the best-of-three series will take place on Sunday. If Tennessee loses again, Texas A&M will win the national championship. Tennessee must win on Sunday to force Game 3 on Monday.
Was Kiffin giving a genuine shout-out, or did he know the Vols lost Game 1? Those who have witnessed Kiffin’s previous barbs at his old company are likely to lean toward the latter.
Kiffin famously departed Tennessee after only one season in 2009 to take over as head coach at USC, and he has never recovered. In 2021, he coached against Tennessee for the first time since, and the game resulted in a major controversy.
Kiffin is a well-known social media troll, so we’re guessing he knew what he was doing with his most recent post.
