The Miami Heat did not have a successful conclusion to their 2023-24 NBA season, as they were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round by the Boston Celtics, who subsequently won the league title. Still, it appears like veteran point guard Patty Mills would like to stay in South Beach and rejoin the Heat.
When asked if a return to the Heat was a desire, the 2014 NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs replied, “I definitely hope so.”
“Look,” he replied, “I’ve really enjoyed my time here at the Heat, and I’ve come to realize what this organization is truly about. And I’ve really enjoyed it while also learning a lot of new stuff. Who knows what will happen. But I tried to take in as much as I could.
Will the Miami Heat keep Patty Mills?
Mills was acquired by the Heat last March after being waived by the Atlanta Hawks in late February. He played in only 13 regular-season games for the Heat, averaging 5.8 points and 1.5 assists in 16.4 minutes per game. Including his time with the Hawks, the 2014 NBA champion averaged just 4.0 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per 13.0 minutes in 32 games.
Mills, who will be 36 years old in August, does not appear to have much left in the tank, but he can still give depth and security at the guard position. If the Heat elect to keep Mills, he should be on an inexpensive contract that will still draw takers if Miami decides to make him a trade asset before the next deadline.
