Kansas City Chiefs finally signs the experience star player they’ve been quietly tracking for some time

The rookie minicamp allowed undrafted athletes to showcase their abilities and try out for a spot on the team.

The Kansas City Chiefs had a tryout for select players at the rookie minicamp in early May, with the objective of eventually signing one of them.

During this time, wide receiver Jaaron Hayek impressed and was awarded a contract to join the team.

However, he does not appear to be KC’s main objective.

The name that caught the Chiefs’ eye

After rookie minicamp concluded, Kansas City welcomed Alex Gubner to join the squad for obligatory activities, which began last Thursday.

According to Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star, the youthful prospect signed with the franchise on Thursday.

The only way the player could participate in the events this week would be if the organisation let someone go. In this scenario, punter Ryan Rehkow was unlucky.

As a curiosity, the rookie was invited to the Denver Broncos minicamp before beginning practice with the Chiefs.

Who is Alex Gubner

Gubner, a defensive tackle from West Hills, California, played for Montana University during his collegiate career. He’s 6-foot-3 and weighs 284 pounds.

In 2023, he won the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Year award. During his final year, he recorded 45 tackles, 9.5 of which were for loss, and three sacks, helping the Griz get to the FCS national championship game.

He concluded his time with the Montana Grizzlies with 124 tackles (48 solo), 28.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks. Gubner also caused a fumble and blocked a punt.
