The Longhorns selected a Houston defensive back over Arkansas, TCU, and Texas A&M.
Official visit season has begun, which usually means commitment season isn’t far behind.
Steve Sarkisian and the Texas coaching staff had their first round of official visitors over the weekend, and they started to see the results Monday. Caleb Chester, a three-star Fort Bend (TX) Marshall cornerback, was one of only a few recruits to make an official visit last weekend, and he started the fireworks today by committing to the Longhorns.
Chester has nearly 40 reported offers and was expected to visit Arkansas and Texas A&M this month, after visiting TCU last month and Texas last week. After his trip to Texas, Chester believed he had seen enough and committed to the Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class as the first defensive back.
Chester’s commitment increases the Longhorns’ total to eleven for the 2025 recruiting cycle, and they are presently ranked 18th in the country by 247Sports.
With Sarkisian and colleagues expecting more official guests in the coming weeks, things are expected to be busy on the recruiting trail as the staff tries to close down some major recruits before the season begins. If there is one thing we’ve learned about this team during their time in Austin, it’s that they know how to host a proper official visit weekend and how to close. With that in mind, you should keep your head on a swivel as the summer months begin to heat up.
Chester is ranked as the 71st cornerback prospect in the country and the 787th overall per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
