Along with signing wide outs Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze to join DJ Moore, Chicago has strengthened the tight end position behind starter Cole Kmet.
The Bears already had a good tight end position with Kmet and Gerald Everett, but they are anticipated to bring back another notable veteran.
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, the Bears want to re-sign Mercedes Lewis, who will be in his 19th season in the NFL, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
The #Bears are expected to re-sign veteran TE Mercedes Lewis to a 1-year deal, he told @JayGlazer. Lewis will be going into his 19th (!!) NFL season and is viewed around the league as one of the top veteran leaders and voices. pic.twitter.com/BJtIG4gEKX

The Bears are looking to make a significant improvement in the rankings for the 2024 NFL season, as the storied franchise is tired of losing and failing to meet expectations.
Obviously, all of these moves will be for naught if Williams isn’t as advertised and can’t live up to the hype in Chicago, but things are looking up for the Bears as they get closer to the 2024 season, which begins on September 8 against the Tennessee Titans at Soldier Field.
