ESPN just released a list of ten must-make moves. Klay Thompson, who signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder, made the list.
The Oklahoma City Thunder had a tremendous season in 2023-24. They finished the regular season with the Western Conference’s top record and won their first playoff series in a long time.
However, the young Thunder were eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, revealing certain concerns with their squad. One of the challenges was shooting from the wing.
In a recent ESPN piece, they discussed why Klay Thompson should sign with the Thunder this offseason. This is what they had to say.
Even though he was just under 39% from three this season, the 34-year-old still hit 268 triples. (The previous season, Thompson hit 41.2% of his threes and drained a league-best 301.) Because of the amount of room he had to work with, Gilgeous-Alexander was already throwing kickout passes that were longer on average than anyone other than Luka Doncic, according to Second Spectrum. (Oklahoma City’s guards also screen off the ball, which is similar to how Golden State does.) Thompson would enhance it all.
The Golden State Warriors had a very disappointing season, as it appears that their window is closing and that they will make some changes. As a free agent this offseason, Thompson’s time in Golden State appears to be coming to an end.
Thompson may not be an All-Star anymore, but he is still a very talented shooter who would be an excellent fit for the Thunder. This year’s playoffs revealed that the Oklahoma City Thunder struggled with three-point shooting.
Thompson, as one of the best three-point shooters in history, would immediately help them improve in that area. Klay Thompson, a multi-championship winner, would also give veteran leadership.
This potential pairing makes a lot of sense for both parties, and it’ll be interesting to watch if it comes to pass.
