The Texas Longhorns are interested in signing four-star running back James Simon from Shreveport, Louisiana.
According to 247Sports, Simon is ranked as the No. 10 running back recruit in the 2025 class, making him a significant commitment for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. The Longhorns are excited not only because of his national rating, but also because of the ramifications of this recruiting success.
LSU was formerly considered the favored to earn Simon’s commitment. In fact, the Tigers were among the candidates for the running back position, among Texas, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Alabama.
The Longhorns won largely because Simon believes in what Sarkisian has done in Austin.
“I definitely think they’re going to be one of the best programs in the nation,” Simon told On3 of his new college football home. “After making the College Playoff last year, I could say they already were, but they’re now unquestionably going to be one of those teams that competes for a national championship practically every year. I think it will be like that for a long time.”
The Longhorns also won Simon over through relationships. Sarkisian and running backs coach Tashard Choice worked hard to establish a connection with the talented back.
He could also see how he might be successful in Texas. Remember that this Texas regime has produced two NFL-ready backs, Bijan Robinson and Jonathon Brooks.
“The way coach Sarkisian talked to me about how he’s going to use me and how he sees me fitting in the offense, it was something I couldn’t say no to,” Simon stated.
As a junior at Calvary Baptist Academy, Simon carried for 1,600 yards and 21 touchdowns on 8.3 yards per carry. He also recorded 20 receptions for 214 yards and three touchdowns.
