Ipswich Town are linked with a summer transfer for Chelsea striker Armando Broja.
Chelsea were forced to lower their asking price for Ipswich Town transfer target Armando Broja this summer.
According to the Express, the forward will be available at a reduced price compared to his January price tag of £50 million.
Broja was the subject of transfer interest during the winter market, but no final trade could be reached.
Instead, the striker was loaned to Fulham, where he played eight league games before returning to Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old’s league games were all from the bench due to Rodrigo Muniz’s form, with Fulham finishing 13th in the Premier League table. He produced 0 goals and one assist.
Ipswich Town’s Armando Broja interest
Ipswich are apparently one of the clubs considering a transfer for Broja this summer.
It is understood that his £50 million asking price has been reduced to £30 million ahead of the summer market’s launch next month.
The Tractor Boys are preparing for life back in the top tier, having been promoted to the Premier League under Kieran McKenna.
Chelsea had planned to hire McKenna as their new manager, but the Northern Irishman has decided to stay at Portman Road and sign a new long-term contract with the Suffolk club.
Broja might now go the opposite way, with Ipswich looking to improve their attacking options ahead of their return to the top level.
Ipswich haven’t played in the Premier League since 2002, yet they finished second in the Championship to earn back-to-back promotions.
This sparked conjecture about McKenna’s future, with Brighton and Manchester United both connected with the 38-year-old coach.
Ipswich will compete for Broja this summer with Wolves, West Ham, AS Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund, though it remains to be seen whether any team would pay Chelsea’s £30 million asking price.
The Blues will be seeking to generate funds before June 30 to assist them comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability criteria (PSR).
Ipswich’s impressive Championship promotion
Ipswich achieved promotion to the Championship in 2023 after finishing second in League One with 98 points.
A total of 96 points in the Championship was enough to secure a second successive promotion, one point behind champions Leicester City.
Southampton will join the pair in preparing for life in the top flight after winning promotion through the play-offs.
Their 1-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday guaranteed their return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Ipswich Town could still be priced out of Armando Broja deal
Chelsea has an extremely weak negotiation position this summer, as everyone understands that they must generate finances in order to comply with PSR.
Nobody came close to paying the £50 million they were aiming for for Broja in January, and the closer we approach to June 30 without a settlement, the more likely that price will fall even more.
Ipswich should wait and see if Chelsea decides to cash in at a lower price before considering a permanent move for Broja.
While he is a promising young forward, he is not worth the £30 million being advertised for his services based on his previous season’s performance, especially for a side that has just been promoted.
