Pompey find themselves joined by two of their Championship rivals in the race to sign a former Premier League winger.
Pompey’s quest to capture Oxford United striker Josh Murphy has got even more difficult after two more Championship clubs joined the race.
Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers are now in the running to recruit the former Cardiff City and Norwich City forward, who was originally valued at £11 million. According to TEAMtalk, the Potters and Rovers are following Murphy’s position and have joined a number of other teams interested in signing him.
On Tuesday, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook mentioned Pompey and Derby County as potential destinations for Murphy. Southampton, West Brom, QPR, Sunderland, and Hull City are also claimed to be interested in Murphy and have sent scouts to watch him, as is Minnesota United from the MLS.
The 29-year-old scored twice in the League One play-off final on Saturday, propelling the club to promotion. His contract expires this summer, but he has a good working relationship with manager Des Buckingham, and they are now in talks to prolong his stay at the club.
