The Los Angeles Dodgers have enjoyed a solid start to the 2024 MLB season despite a slew of injuries. Several Dodgers pitchers, notably Walker Buehler, Emmet Sheehan, and Clayton Kershaw, have been severely impacted by throwing injuries. Nonetheless, Kershaw’s rehab update will delight LA supporters.
According to AM 570 LA Sports, Kershaw’s rehabilitation from his shoulder injury is “trending upward”.
In November 2023, Kershaw had surgery to repair the glenohumeral ligaments and capsule in his left shoulder. It was the first operation he had on his throwing arm. Previously, Kershaw was sidelined for six weeks in July and August due to shoulder problems. Despite this, he persevered until the end of the season.
Unfortunately, Kershaw’s injury appeared to significantly impact his postseason performance. In Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he allowed six runs and recorded only one out. Kershaw’s struggles did not end there. He and the Dodgers were shockingly swept, ending their playoff run prematurely.
Clayton Kershaw’s return from injury will be a huge help to Los Angeles’ pitching core. According to ESPN, the 35-year-old had a win-loss record of 13-5 in 2023, ranking him 13th in the league. In addition, Kershaw had a 2.46 ERA, 137 strikeouts, and a 1.06 WHIP. Of course, Kershaw will have strong support.
Tyler Glasnow has been the Dodgers’ most productive pitcher so far in 2024. So far in the 2024 season, the former Tampa Bay Rays right-hander is 6-2 with 81 strikeouts, which leads the league. Furthermore, his 0.90 WHIP is fifth in the league.
The Dodgers need everything Glasnow has to offer as they deal with an injury-riddled pitching staff.
Dodgers continue to roll despite being slightly undermanned
Los Angeles is 33-18, which places them first in the National League West. The team dropped the first game of their late-May series against the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2, but they had two more promising series that month. First, the squad won two of three games against the San Francisco Giants. The Los Angeles club then had the same result in a series of games against the Cincinnati Reds.
Emmet Sheehan, a second-year Major League pitcher, is pulling for the team to continue its success despite his devastating injury report.
Sheehan had Tommy John surgery in mid-May and expects more than a year of rehabilitation. The right-hander told reporters about the injury, underlining how disappointing it is to live with.
“Super frustrating,” Sheehan remarked Monday, according to The Orange County Register. “Obviously, being on a squad like this, it’s extremely wonderful to be around these guys, and getting to play with them is a fantastic opportunity that I was looking forward to. But there’s no point in worrying about that right now. Just moving on to the next thing, trying to improve and be healthy for next year.”
Sheehan can rely on Los Angeles’ other available stars to keep the team afloat during his absence.
Overall, it will be intriguing to watch how the Dodgers fare at the end of May.
