The Baltimore Ravens are anticipated to be among the AFC’s top contenders again this season. After falling one win short of the Super Bowl in 2023, Lamar Jackson and company are hoping to finally jump over the hump.
The Ravens were proactive during this year’s NFL offseason. They did lose Odell Beckham Jr., but they were able to sign one of the NFL’s top free agents. Derrick Henry was signed to join Jackson in the backfield and provide Baltimore with a legitimate running game.
While Henry’s signing is a significant boost to the Ravens’ offense, they could still use additional aid. A Super Bowl is difficult to win, and depth at wide receiver is always required.
With that in mind, the Ravens are emerging as a potential bidder for a free agency wide receiver with enormous upside.
Baltimore Ravens Emerging As Suitor For Big Potential Free Agent Receiver
According to Sports Illustrated, wide receiver is the Baltimore Ravens’ biggest question mark heading into the 2024 season. They have identified the Ravens as a prospective suitor for a former great wide receiver wanting to restart his NFL career.
“The Ravens are once again entering training camp with wide receiver worries. They lack depth and proven playmakers behind Zay Flowers, last year’s standout rookie. Rashod Bateman, their 2021 first-round choice, received a two-year extension after three inconsistent seasons and one year remaining on his rookie contract. Perhaps they want to sign a free agency wideout like Michael Thomas.”
Thomas is coming off a solid season with the New Orleans Saints, despite only playing in 10 games. He grabbed 39 passes for 448 yards and one touchdown.
While the figures aren’t particularly impressive, they do demonstrate that he can have an impact when healthy. Thomas might do some damage with a far superior offense led by Lamar Jackson rather than Derek Carr.
Michael Thomas’s health will determine everything. If the Baltimore Ravens want to make a low-cost move that could pay off handsomely, this is the one to make. If Thomas continues to play, he could be the missing piece for the Ravens’ attack.
Other NFL teams may also pursue Thomas. Other prospective suitors are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Ravens want Thomas, they will have to move quickly.
It will be interesting to watch who eventually gives Thomas a try. The Baltimore Ravens should seriously consider this alternative.
