As the offseason progresses, so do the trade speculations surrounding New Orleans Saints standout cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who was recently involved in another hypothetical trade.
The NFL is over halfway through the 2024 offseason, but training camp is still nearly two months away. Most of the offseason’s major moves have already occurred. However, there are still a few more dominoes to fall. Everyone believes that the New Orleans Saints have one of those dominos.
All offseason, there have been speculations that the Saints might trade standout cornerback Marshon Lattimore. To the speculators’ defense, New Orleans did little to quell the allegations. When asked about Lattimore possibly being dealt, head coach Dennis Allen and general manager Mickey Loomis provided cryptic responses on many occasions.
Loomis’ most recent response was the clearest, as he stated that the Saints are not actively seeking to deal Lattimore. However, Loomis left the door open again, stating that anyone can be traded for the proper package. This prompted more disagreement, as NFL experts, like the late Gale Sayers, require only 18 inches of daylight.
So, predictably, Lattimore is involved in yet another possible deal. This time, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell is urging the Jacksonville Jaguars to trade a fourth-round pick to New Orleans for Lattimore.
ESPN suggests the Saints trade Marshon Lattimore to the Jaguars
According to Barnwell, this is an arrangement that makes sense for both parties. Jacksonville would gain a top-tier starting cornerback, resolving an issue that the organization has been urgently attempting to fix. For New Orleans, Barnwell argues the deal “would clear up a financial and positional logjam,” arguing that the Saints would be OK with Paulson Adebo, Alontae Taylor, and Kool-Aid McKinstry.
While all options may be considered, a fourth-round pick is unlikely to suffice for Mickey Loomis. Through all of his hazy words about a potential Lattimore deal, Loomis has made it apparent that he would much rather continue to build with guys who have made significant contributions than simply ship them off. He has explained that when a quality player is traded, it is because the franchise received a worthwhile package. A fourth-round pick does not appear to be a worthwhile trade for Marshon Lattimore.
