Donte Jackson joined the Steelers’ secondary after Diontae Johnson was dealt to the Carolina Panthers in March. However, the squad is currently working to enhance the unit prior to the start of the upcoming season.

Anthony Averett is signing with the Steelers

According to Pro Football Talk, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive back Anthony Averett on Sunday:

Cornerback Anthony Averett spent the weekend participating in the Steelers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, and he will be around for a while longer.

According to Averett’s agent, Chad Wiestling, the Steelers signed him to a one-year contract after watching him work out for the team.

Averett had time with the 49ers and Lions last season, but did not play during the regular season.

The Baltimore Ravens chose Averett in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He remained with the Ravens through the 2021 season. At 29, he has started 27 games and appeared in 51 others during his NFL career. He has made 114 total tackles, 23 passes defensed, and three interceptions.
