The Georgia Bulldogs have lost numerous significant players to the NFL, notably tight end Brock Bowers. They have played only one game in the last two seasons. Georgia won two consecutive titles before losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game and missing the college football playoffs.
Instead, the Bulldogs defeated the Florida State Seminoles 63-3 in the Orange Bowl last season. The Georgia Bulldogs demonstrated why they should have been one of the four teams in the college football playoffs. With an extended postseason this season, head coach Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs could be back in the championship hunt.
They always reloaded year after year, and this year will be no exception. Georgia is predicted to be number one in the preseason rankings. Quarterback Carson Beck is expected to be one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. He may possibly win the Heisman Trophy this season.
Aside from Beck, there will be a few other players to watch this season. Who could burst out on the offensive side of the football?
Georgia Bulldogs Junior Tight End Oscar Delp Is a Prime Candidate To Break Out In the Offense After Brock Bowers Leaves For the NFL
After Bowers departs for the NFL, junior tight end Oscar Delp is anticipated to take over as starter this season. Brock Bowers may have been a top-five pick, but he fell to the Las Vegas Raiders 13th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Last season with the Georgia Bulldogs, Oscar Delp caught 24 receptions for 283 yards and three scores, averaging 11.8 yards per reception. According to Fansided’s John Buhler, Oscar Delp could have a breakout season with the Bulldogs this year.
“To clarify, I wouldn’t say that tight end Oscar Delp is a true breakout contender, and the majority of Dawg Nation is fully aware of him. However, this is all about him carrying on the legacy of Brock Bowers, college football’s finest tight end. Delp becomes the primary focal point of the Bulldogs’ offense at this position group. Lawson Luckie and transfer Benjamin Yurosek will be there to assist him.
Carson Beck will play in Mike Bobo’s offense for the second consecutive year. Over the course of last season, we saw slight differences in Bobo’s game calls compared to his UGA predecessor Todd Monken. Georgia remains Tight End U, though Iowa would try to argue otherwise. Delp, Beck’s safety valve, needs to have a breakout season for Georgia to keep this going.
The speed with which he establishes chemistry with Beck will have a significant impact on the Georgia attack.
The Bulldogs’ passing game will be dangerous this season. We’ll see how well Oscar Delp blocks, as Brock Bowers was also a terrific blocker.
